Sandy Hamilton Sworn in as State Representative for 99th House District

Springfield resident Sandy Hamilton was sworn in to serve as State Representative for the 99th House District. Hamilton fills the vacancy created by the retirement of State Representative Mike Murphy, who recently resigned from the Illinois House of Representatives to assume the role of President and CEO with the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

“I am honored to receive this appointment to represent the people of the 99th District,” said Hamilton. “Mike Murphy did an excellent job serving our communities in the Illinois House of Representatives and I hope to build on the work he has done over the next twelve months. The Springfield area is where I have built a life and raised my family and I am humbled by this opportunity to serve as an advocate for our community in the legislature.”

Hamilton, a real estate broker and graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, will complete the term Murphy was elected to in 2020, which ends in January 2023. She lives in Springfield with her husband and three sons where, in addition to selling real estate, she also spent a number of years serving as the head volleyball coach at Sacred-Heart Griffin High School.

“I congratulate Representative Sandy Hamilton on her appointment and greatly look forward to serving with her in the General Assembly,” said House Republican Leader Jim Durkin. “Representative Hamilton’s commitment to civic engagement and community involvement is well known throughout the area. Sangamon County Republican Chairwoman, Dianne Barghouti Hardwick, made the right choice for the people of the 99th District and I applaud her for the thorough appointment process she conducted.”

“It has been one of the great honors of my life to serve as the State Representative for the 99th District. I am confident that in passing the torch to Sandy Hamilton our area will continue to have a strong voice in the Statehouse,” said former State Representative Mike Murphy, “Representative Hamilton’s love of our community and her commitment to making Illinois a better place perfectly equips her to be a good steward for the people of the 99th District.”

Now that Hamilton has been sworn in, her first order of business will be to prepare for the new session that begins in earnest next week.
