Rep. Murphy: Madigan’s time is up
State Representative Mike Murphy (R-Springfield) issued the following statement after the U.S. Attorney announced indictments against Speaker Madigan’s allies including Mike McClain, Anne Pramaggiore, John Hooker and Jay Doherty:
“The announcement of these indictments only adds to the growing mountain of corruption evidence laid at Mike Madigan’s feet,” said Murphy. “Fifteen House Democrats have now said they will not support him for another term as Speaker, while the Governor and both Democratic U.S. Senators have called for him to step down as their state party chairman. His continued denials of wrongdoing and refusal to step aside are why the legislature is not able to meet right now and get to work on addressing the latest surge in the COVID-19 crisis.
“Since it has been obvious for months, even years, Madigan is determined to put his grip on power over the good of the people of Illinois; the Special Investigating Committee must be reconvened immediately to take action. Madigan’s time is up.”
