The Illinois affiliate of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) has endorsed Rodney Davis in his campaign for Congress in Illinois’ 13th District.

“The hardworking men and women of the Postal Service keep our country moving and working. Whether it’s delivering medication to veterans, Social Security checks to retirees, or letters to loved ones, their jobs are vital to the communities I represent, particularly those in rural areas. I’m proud to support them and our local post offices in Congress. I appreciate the endorsement from the Letter Carriers and look forward to working with them in the 117th Congress to continue strengthening the Postal Service.” – Rodney Davis

In a letter announcing their endorsement, Illinois State President of the NALC John Cooksey wrote:

“The Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers is proud to endorse you for the Illinois Congressional District 13 seat in the House of Representatives. Your work to help the United States Postal Service return to a firm financial footing by repealing the burdensome mandate to prefund retiree health benefits decades in advance via the USPS Fairness Act, as well as reaching out to other representatives about this matter, all while cosponsoring every bill that has aided the United States Postal Service, demonstrates that you area true champion and friend of not only the 15,000+ letter carriers across Illinois, but also to the 290,000 active and retired letter carriers across the country.”

You can find the endorsement letter here. NALC is the national labor union of letter carriers employed by the United States Postal Service (USPS). NALC is an affiliated union of the AFL-CIO.

In Congress, Rodney Davis has consistently supported legislation to strengthen the USPS, including legislation to oppose USPS privatization, keep Saturday delivery, repeal the prefund mandate for retirement benefit payments, and more. Recently, Davis was one of the only Republicans to vote for the Delivering for America Act, which provides emergency financial support to the Postal Service.

Davis was one of the keynote speakers at the 2018 National Association of Letter Carriers biennial convention in Detroit.
